About the University
Hochschule Bielefeld
University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) was founded in 1971. HSBI has 6 faculties: Design, Minden Campus, Engineering and Mathematics, Social Sciences, Health and Bielefeld School of Business.
The university stands for an application oriented teaching and research. It engages in close contact with the industrial and business communities and social and cultural institutes in the region. HSBI has a strong relationship with the most powerful family business in German and in Europe such as Dr. Oetker, Miele, Mellita. Students have opportunities to work, train and intern with these companies.
Locations and Campuses
Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences has five faculties which are located in three campuses and cities: Bielefeld, Minden and Gütersloh.
City Life in Bielefeld
With some 333.000 inhabitants, Bielefeld is the largest city in the region of East Westphalia-Lippe and is considered the economic center of the region. The city has over 35,000 students and is one of the biggest student cities in Germany.
Bielefeld is home to a significant number of internationally operating companies, including Dr. Oetker, Gildemeister and Schüco. Bielefeld is also famous for the Bethel Institution. Bielefeld is also known for its name-sake conspiracy, which satirises conspiracy theories by claiming that Bielefeld does not exist. This concept has been used in the town’s marketing and alluded to by chancellor Angela Merkel.
